Service Description: These graphics indicate the probability (potential) for a location to receive specific thresholds of accumulated snow or ice. Snowfall - shapes represent the probability (slight, moderate, and high) that enclosed areas will receive equal to or greater than a specific threshold accumulation (4", 8" or 12") of snowfall in a 24 hour period. Ice - shapes represent the probability (slight, moderate, and high) that enclosed areas will recieve equal to or greater than 0.25 inch of ice accumulation.

Layers:
Description: A map showing day 1, day 2, and day 3 probability forecasts of snowfall and freezing rain accumulation in the Continental United States. The Service includes 12 Group Layers consisting of 0 - 24, 24 - 48, and 48 - 72 hour probability forecasts of snowfall accumulation ≥ 4, 8, and 12 inches, as well as 0 - 24, 24 - 48, and 48 - 72 hour probability forecasts of freezing rain accumulation ≥ 0.25 inches. Forecasts are issued from the NCEP WPC Winter Weather Desk (WWD) twice daily at 0900 UTC and 2100 UTC (4am/pm EST or 5am/pm EDT respectively) from Sept. 15 through May 15 and may be updated if warranted by rapidly changing situations. The map will display Shapefiles indicating Slight ( ≥ 10% probability), Moderate (≥ 40% probability), and High (≥ 70% probability) forecasts of Snow and Freezing Rain accumulations.
